Pro Kabaddi Weekly: Jaipur jostle
With just a handful of weeks left until the playoffs, Pro Kabaddi’s stint at the Pink City saw quite a few players paint the town red.
As we inch closer to the 2019 Pro Kabaddi season 7 playoffs, the more importance each round gets. That was certainly the case at Jaipur, where the teams once again laid it all out on the line, trying to earn every point they could.
Here are some of the most noteworthy stories from the Jaipur round:
Pardeep powers on
The legend around Pardeep Narwal just continues to build with yet another highly productive week in spite of the overall struggles of his team. Following his 19-point haul from the match with Dabang Delhi, the Patna Pirates captain became the first to touch the 1,100-raid point mark, as well as the first to 50 Super Raids.
Joy for Vijay
In the same game that saw Pardeep Narwal add to his milestones mentioned above, Dabang Delhi’s Vijay carved out a meaty slice of spotlight for himself. In the dying moments of the match, Vijay scored a five-point Super Raid to snatch a four-point victory for his boys from the jaws of defeat.
With their season’s first win getting ever more tantalising with each passing week, Jaipur Pink Panthers must have thought surely, they’ll break the duck at their home round. However, it looked like they’d be denied again, after their first match ended in a draw and the second saw them lose out to Bengal Warriors by a single, cruel point.
It finally came around with a 43-34 win against Puneri Paltan. They finished their week with nine points, and it brought them to within a point of making the top six.
Siddharth Desai, Telugu Titans’ lucrative new signing for this season kept putting to rest any concerns that might have cropped up earlier in the season. Living up to his team’s name handily with a titanic performance in the curtain-closer, the man nicknamed ‘Baahubali’ shattered the home team’s defensive grit with a 22-raid point performance to close the curtains on the Jaipur leg with a 31-51 victory.
