Will Juventus rue dropping Can and Mandzukic from their UCL line-up?
Juventus ousting Emre Can and Mario Mandzukic from the UEFA Champion’s League squad could turn out to be a fatal decision for Sarri and the team, and here’s why.
Juventus, Turin’s most successful Italian football club, submitted a startling squad sheet for the upcoming UEFA Champion’s League 2019/20 season. Names like Emre Can and Mario Mandzukic were left out of the line-up to the surprise of many fans across the world. Let us understand if the decision by Maurizio Sarri would work in or against his favour.
Emre Can, who joined Juventus from Liverpool in 2018, along with renowned striker Mario Mandzukic was opted out of the 22-man Juventus Champions League Squad. The news was broken to the central midfielder while he was away on international duty for Germany.
Both Mandzukic and Can have been a part of the club’s success ever since their arrival at the Allianz Stadium. This has made the ex-Liverpool star furious as he tried to claim his rightful position in the squad. What further added fuel to the fire was his adamancy on being lied to by his coach and turned down from the squad over a phone call that lasted less than a minute.
The German later tried to cool off by sending out a tweet stating his gratefulness to the Italian football club.
I will always be grateful to Juventus Turin and how they supported and stood by me since I am part of the club, particularly during my time of illness.

Weeding out an effective striker
While Emre stayed in the center of a shocking controversy, Mario Mandzukic shared the spotlight as he too didn’t find his name on the list. The 33-year-old striker has certainly been a dominant attacker for the club, scoring during the most crucial games, especially in the UCL.
He has played a huge role in carrying out effective goal-scoring tactics for Juve, even before Cristiano Ronaldo joined the team. The Croatian had been an attractive signing for the greatest club of the Premier League era, Manchester United. Despite their efforts in bringing him to Old Trafford, Mario stuck to Turin with hopes to play the UEFA Champion’s League.

A fatal decision?
With two of The Old Lady’s finest players left out of the squad, the fans and experts ask only one question to Maurizio Sarri — Could this decision cost the club its European glory?
Names like Pjanic, Khedeira, Ramsey, Matuidi and Rabiot have been credible enough to replace Emre. While Higuain, Ronaldo, and Dybala are a much dependent attacking task force to fill in the shoes of Mandzukic.
